The Optos California

Your retina (located in the back of your eye) is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that certain eye conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinal tears or detachments can be observed, as well as other health problems including high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke. Many eye problems can develop without being aware or noticing any changes to your eyesight. Early signs of these conditions can show in your retina long before you notice any changes to your health or vision. A thorough screening of the retina is critical to verify that your entire eye is healthy.

Getting an optomap image is fast, painless, and comfortable. Nothing touches your eye, and it is suitable for everyone. To have the exam, you simply look into the device one eye at a time, and you will see a flash of light used to capture the image of your retina. It takes less than a half-second and the images are available immediately for you to see your own retina. You see exactly what your eye care physician sees - even in a 3D animation. It also gives your eye doctor a permanent record for your file, which allows us to view your images each year to compare and look for changes.

Optomap ultra-widefield retinal image is a unique technology that captures more than 80% of your retina in a single image, while traditional imaging methods typically only show 15% of your retina at one time. During your examination dilation drops might not be necessary under normal circumstances, but your eye care physician will decide if your pupils need to be dilated depending on the health of your eyes.

iCare Tonometer

Gone are the days of the dreaded “air-puff test”. Our office utilizes one of the best methods for measuring your intraocular pressure, or IOP. The iCare Tonometer is a digital instrument with virtually no detectable touch to the eye. This helps in the diagnosis and management of certain eye diseases such as glaucoma. The iCare Tonometer is faster and more accurate. It allows the IOP to be measured without using a puff of air, eyedrops, or any pain or discomfort. This means we get to take better care of you with a more enjoyable and stress-free experience!

Optikam

Eye care professionals use Optikam’s technology to capture more than 3 million eyewear measurements every year. Optikam’s OPD measurement device is a cutting-edge tool that obtains eyewear measurements that take into account how the frame will be worn by patients, enabling the fit to be customized to their individual parameters. The ten measurements taken into account when determining each patient’s position of wear include:

  • Monocular pupillary distance

  • Multifocal seg heights

  • Pantoscopic tilt

  • Rear vertex distance

  • Wrap (face form tilt)

  • Near pupillary distance

This results in frames that not only look fantastic, but that also fit perfectly, remaining both comfortable and stable on the face without you needing to adopt an unnatural posture. The measurements obtained by the Optikam OPD measurement tool are immediately visible on your eye doctor’s tablet so that they can recommend which alterations to the frames are needed to ensure that the frames fit with precision and gives you the best visual experience.

Biomicroscope Imaging

The slit lamp is a biomicroscope that uses light and high-powered magnification lenses to allow your eye care physician 3-D visualization and measurement of the fine anatomy and structures of the eye. The slit lamp is equipped with a digital camera that can obtain ophthalmic images and videos of what the doctor is seeing. It can also project the images or videos on to a screen in the examination room for real-time visualization, or can be recorded and saved in your file which allows the images or videos to be viewed and compared each year to monitor for changes.
